How to Play Whack-a-Mole

Press Start Game and watch all nine holes. When a mole appears, select that hole before the mole disappears. Every successful hit adds one point, and the next mole appears in a different random position.

The game gradually becomes quicker during Standard and Quick rounds. When the clock reaches zero, your score and accuracy are shown. Your high score stays on the same device when browser storage is available.

Begin With Easy Pace

Easy Pace keeps each mole visible longer and leaves more time before the next appearance. It is a good place to understand the board layout or become comfortable with the keyboard numbers.

Move to Standard or Quick only when you want a livelier round. There is no penalty for staying with Easy, pausing the game, or starting a fresh round.

UNDERSTAND YOUR RESULTS

Score, Misses, Accuracy, and High Score

Your score increases only when you select the currently visible mole. A miss is recorded when a mole disappears before being selected. Selecting an empty hole does not lower your score.

Accuracy is calculated from successful hits and moles that disappeared. The high score is the largest number of successful hits from any completed round on the same browser.

This game is recreation. The score is not a medical measurement of reflexes, coordination, vision, or cognitive ability.

TAKE TURNS

Two people can play separate rounds using the same speed setting. Let the first person finish, note the score, then select Play Another Round for the next person.

For a fair comparison, keep the pace and sound setting the same. You can also ignore the score and simply take turns finding the next visible mole.
