How This 8-Ball Game Works

The table begins open, which means neither player has solids or stripes. The first player to legally pocket a numbered ball is assigned that group. From then on, each player must contact a ball from their own group first.

After pocketing all seven balls in your group, you may shoot for the black 8-ball. Pocket it legally to win. Pocketing the 8-ball early, or pocketing the cue ball on the same shot, gives the game to the other player.

A scratch occurs when the white cue ball falls into a pocket. The game returns it to the table automatically and passes the turn to the other player. This keeps play moving without requiring you to position the cue ball manually.
